Losing Myself Too

can you help me? the last time
I saw myself I was here
camouflaged, wishing I was somebody else
with amnesia
now I'm at the mercy of my imagination
and the world is a friendly place when you feel good cursed with opportunity and tempted to believe
that I could get what I wanted
if I knew what I wanted
and if I got it would I want it?

what am I to do?
it's just the thought of losing you
and losing myself too

grabs the sun throws some rain against the window it comes and goes
hides my dreams somewhere under the rainbow can't beat these lows
but hours are crumbling in my hands
and days keep spinning by
and the seasons move like clouds across the sky and as I kick my way through summer's litter
all the self-indulgence of the day
all those decisions to repay
they disappear and move closer

what am I to do?
it's just the thought of losing you
and losing myself too

Way To Go

trouble seems to follow me round wherever I go
waiting in the sodium light with it's knife in my shadow

well I caught your parting shot
the close ribbed streets stretched down their arms
and carried me over where the city's heart beats

and as my thoughts rewind
the present past combine
but I could never hold my mind

oh what a way to go

numbing words and constant reminders on the telly
where's the comfort knowing there's somebody who's more unlucky

and as the stars recline
the day was so benign
but looks like it's the end this time

oh what a way to go

Can't get used to this

I've seen the rich sweep by
lost cold hands
but I can't get used to this

star clouds and dark dust lanes
lost cold hurricanes
but I can't get used to this

things could be so good
imagine that they could
things could go well
listen listen

things could be so good
and life be as it should
things could go well
I can't get used to this

It Isn't Easy

such a familiar dream
an ordinary scene
I somehow find myself caught cold
without the armour of age

you shouldn't say those things
you shouldn't talk that way
the hostile night that brings to the day
truth that will find you

demons in tender years
so hard to exorcise
and I can't keep my fears within reach
watching the moon rolling over and over

it isn't easy
and are these thoughts my own
and are these words my own
and does it matter if
the sun and moon roll over and over again

You Shine

all I need were the words you gave to me
so let those clouds bring rain
we'll shelter from the sane

you shine in all of the things you do
all of these emotions you rescue
you shine your thoughts decorate the day
guiding us through all of the traps I lay
you shine

life with all it's half measures and true random turns
and it's ruthless disconnected point of view as we learn
it's so much easier to kid yourself that you're in control
but I know what I haven't got now and I don't mind

I have always thought that it's a crime to believe
that we're living for the future all the time
our past creeps up behind us with generous gifts of guilt and regret but it's too late to get upset now and I don't mind

Invisible Lives

clouds migrating eastward form the backdrop to this the day cold as ambition or a september kiss
he moves nervous and happy in the scheme of things enjoys his suit of armour - the influence it brings
doesn't register the invisible lives
that pass him by

they move each with a reason and purpose in mind too old too young too simple too mean too kind
they pass beautiful losers with no prejudice
who drink freely from the bottle who have a life wish look with pity on the invisible lives
that pass them by
and this day will come again

welcome to the world

well you won't always bring me down
rag tag and bob tail town
I don't wonder I'm sure you are right
torturing ideas in the pale straw night
you do what you want to do

even the tide is tired of you
rag tag and bob tail town
welcome to the deserted fair
where manners meet murder and hope despair
you do what you want to do

welcome to the world
through a piercing coma
heaven and it's charms for the holy roller
you're welcome to you
it's going to be a lovely day

what made them paint you like a clown
rag tag and bob tail town
like some bad taste holiday scheme
and acre of flesh on a quivering green
you try so hard but you can't dream
though you're desperate to
and you can't scream though we try so hard for you

torturing ideas in the pale straw night
I don't even wonder I'm sure you are right
you do what you want to do

welcome to the world
through a piercing coma
heaven and it's charms for the holy roller
you're welcome to you
it's going to be a lovely day

Take Your Time

out on easy street
difficult listening bringing in the spring
with our backs to the mall
surely there's more or less

when you say you'll be where you want to be you break down the only life I know

it's all you've got do
take your time
It Goes On

time standing still
the end where you begin
and always will
it goes on it goes on

time in a trance
to live a life
a life to die for
all romance
it goes on it goes on

idealise
don't let them close up your eyes
so breath time
waste time
see how slowly it falls down

well then you found
the joy of flying high
brings you to ground
it goes on it goes on

Here It Is

windsor red in tobacco
the fading sun burns the sky
autumn torches the ground
and parallel days creep by

but you know
it's alright to be alone
don't you know it's alright
you see blank faces chasing summers
mapping out futures, forging guarantees
here it is
is this what you're dreaming of?

acres of slate rooftop headstones
vie for space
thoughts you can't think
miracles sink here without trace

but you know
it's alright to be alone
don't you know it's alright
you see blank faces chasing summers
mapping out futures, forging guarantees
here it is
is this what you're dreaming of?
